The bonding of the MMCs from Nickel-coated silicon carbide is between metal coatings, which can avoid direct contact between reinforcement particulates leading to a bonding defect or poor bonding. This will result in MMCs with enhanced mechanical strength and ductility. A thin Ni-coating can serve as "wetting layer" in liquid phase Al infiltration process, capable of near net-shape fabrication of Al/SiC parts.
